Project Description

Olbolet Primary School was established 15 years ago as the first school in the area actively combating female genital mutilation (FGM), a harmful practice that continues to affect girls in the community today. Despite the founders' commitment, the school operates in severely degraded conditions, with overcrowded classrooms, multiple grades sharing the same space, and inadequate roofing that forces closures during the rainy season. Due to non-compliance with national education standards, the government has threatened to close the school, putting at risk its critical role in reducing FGM, child labor, and early dropout. To safeguard this impact, Magic Foundation will rehabilitate existing infrastructure and construct six new classrooms, along with electrification and sanitation facilities. These improvements will bring the school into compliance with government standards, improve learning conditions, and increase student retention and enrollment. Securing Olbolet School's future will preserve a vital platform for girls' protection, behavioral change, and long-term community transformation.

Community Impact

The project will strengthen a highly marginalized Maasai community, where poverty and limited access to education continue to fuel harmful practices such as FGM and child labor. By safeguarding and improving access to quality education, the project will drive lasting behavioral change, particularly in attitudes toward girls' education and protection. Over time, increased educational attainment will expand future employment and livelihood opportunities for Maasai youth, supporting economic self-reliance beyond traditional subsistence activities. In the long term, education will serve as a foundation for social transformation, resilience, and improved wellbeing for the wider community.
